I read McCarthy's The Road a few years ago, and I still think about it sometimes as an example of a certain type of book (i.e., one that tries to make vivid the stark and unpleasant realities of human existence; in other words, "dark") that makes a certain type of mistake.. The mistake, as I see it, lies in the book's ending. Now I'm not the biggest fan of McCarthy's writing, though The Road. Freda, MI US Region: Houghton.
